Moshi Mythro Air Bluetooth Headphone Review: An Affordable, Elegant Option For iPhone 7 Users Feeling Jacked

It’s hard to be picky about wireless headphones with the iPhone 7. Without the 3.5mm headphone jack, things can get tricky when you’re trying to charge your phone and listen to music at the same time. Relying on the headjack adapter? Annoying, considering the cable is about two inches long and super easy to lose. Apple didn’t include AirPods with the iPhone 7, either, just a pair of regular EarPods with a lightning connection. That’s why a good pair of Bluetooth headphones are more crucial than ever.

There’s no cord on the Apple Airpods and the buds simply rest in your ears and charge wirelessly. Sounds great, except they haven’t released yet, look pretty hideous and they’re set to cost over $150. Moshi’s Mythro Air earbuds, on the other hand, run for $69. Unfortunately, there is a wire running between the two ear pieces, but few quality bluetooth earbuds are truly cordless.

The best thing about Moshi’s Mythro Air, compared to other premium brands like Beats, for example, is the design. These are a wardrobe staple. The earbuds themselves are subtle, even if you choose the red colorway. There’s no bulky earpiece obtruding from the earbud itself. They are barely noticeable to people walking by and the magnetic clip keeps the cord secure.

I’ve been a fan of Moshi’s polished approach to their products ever since I spotted a sleek, burgandy pair of over-the-ear headphones at a Pepcom tech conference in New York earlier this year. Even after testing out the Mythro Air, Moshi’s Avanti on-ear headphones are still my go-to for everyday use -- riding the subway, running errands and walking around New York City. There's a comfortability about Avanti that Mythro Air doesn’t have for me. Like all bluetooth earbuds, in my experience, the cord gets stuck in my hair and the earpiece falls out from time to time if I turn my head too fast. That being said, Mytho Air’s ear tips are snug and come in many sizes. The lightweight aluminum doesn’t weigh down inside of your ears. So it’s really not the earbuds that cause the headphones to fall off, it’s a problem with all in-ear headphones used on-the-go.

What Mythro Air has over Avanti is iPhone7 efficiency. Mythro Air are perfect to use in the office and have every feature you’d expect from a premium in-ear bluetooth headphone. The microphone speaker is loud and clear on work calls. There’s no cord hanging over the keyboard when you type. You can easily skip to the next song of your playlist without having to unlock the iPhone. An optional magnetic clip supports the cord, so it’s not just hanging beneath your chin or resting on the back of your neck. These headphones can handle just as much backpack chaos as Avanti, which has a stainless steel headband.

The Mythro Air also adds some cool tech. For example, using the feature ‘DJ4two’ on the Moshi Bluetooth Audio App, it’s also possible to sync your headphones with a friend who also has Mythro Air to listen to the same music at the same time. I’ve never heard of the latter feature included with a pair of headphones. At first it sounded like a bonus throwaway feature, but it’s actually a lot of fun to have the option. Because, let’s be honest, sharing an earbud even with a friend is kinda weird. The Moshi app tells you how much battery life the headphones have left. The battery itself lasts about eight hours and recharges through a micro-USB connection.

Mytho Air pairs easily, and once you do it, the iPhone automatically picks up the signal as soon say you turn the headphones on. After pairing and flipping on my first song, I was genuinely surprised by the quality. The bass is deep and the vibrations resonate without a loud punch through the eardrum. That’s honestly my favorite part of these headphones compared to Avanti, which has more of a bright, soft, acoustic sound. It’s really easy to become engrossed in Spotify’s ‘Rap Caviar’ playlist with these tiny, but hard-hitting, buds. The fullness of the speakers drown out office chatter, running keyboards and mouse clicks. Moshi allows access to the equalizer via the Moshi App, so adjust the levels to your liking.

All in all, Mythro Air is perfect for jammin’ out in any situation. Moshi’s durable pair of earbuds are a steal for under $70, especially compared to other brands on the market. Whatever your sound and tonal preferences, Mythro Air has the capacity. The magnetic clip sets Moshi apart from bluetooth headphones that only come with an awkward, dangling cord.

The Moshi Mythro Air gray are available for purchase now, red and silver will follow in early December. Check out our Moshi Avanti review here.
