Mr. Robot posted a teaser on its Twitter channel highlighting thematic spoilers about the upcoming season, the main one chiefly being Tyrell Wellick’s assumed culpability in the leading the fsociety attack. Coupled with scene slices included in the first trailer that has been released for Season 2, it seems the FBI are having trouble tying the crime to Elliot Anderson.
The trailer showcased an FBI agent attempting to perform electronic forensic investigation on a computer tower booby-trapped to catch on fire in a setting looking suspiciously like fsociety’s Coney Island hang-out spot/hacking cave. The teaser, on the other hand, indicated that Tyrell was considered responsible for the attack and that he was also being investigated for the murder of his former boss’ wife.
This teaser was done in a newscast format, playing up the style of the first Mr. Robot Season 2 teaser which showed clips of President Obama cut together to make it seem like he was speaking about the fsociety hack.
This means that this second teaser is only revealing the “official” information floating around in the Mr. Robot universe. This means that the FBI — or perhaps a stubborn agent like Grace Gummer , who is confirmed to be playing an FBI investigator next season — could still be secretly investigating Elliot’s involvement, using Tyrell as a skunkworks cover in hopes that Elliot may slip up.
The aforementioned trailer also announced the official release date for Mr. Robot Season 2: July 13, 2016. The show’s sophomore return will be premiere on USA Network.
