NBA 2K17 has a troubling shot meter glitch that still hasn’t been fixed. However, recent tweets from a 2K gameplay director suggest a partial solution may go live before a patch formally releases.

When probed about the latest on the shot meter glitch, 2K’s Mike Wang recently said “I’m going to try something.” He further qualified that his plan “won’t really fix it, but [it] should help people until the patch drops.” From what we can gather, it’s assumed a change on this level might happen server-side as opposed to a downloadable patch. Adjustments to AI and badges were quietly pushed last week through the same methodology.

For those that missed our previous take on the NBA 2K17 shot meter glitch, Wang has also promised impacted players that a larger fix must be dispatched. Subsequent analysis must have shown something about the problem that can be circumvented through other means. About a week ago, Wang asked if the glitch had anything to do with one’s set shot release speed, but the evidence proved inconclusive.

As for the sort of issues this shortcoming causes, many players have found that the shot meter will fill up as normal but suddenly revert to half capacity just before jump shots. This means it’s harder to score on all jumpers, and that’s a significant problem for any basketball game. In addition to fixing shots, some feel the Ankle Breaker Badge has been nerfed too heavily. One of the project’s producers is also investigating that issue.

Before those major bugs can be addressed, however, 2K must finish the rollout of its official 1.03 update that brings a wide variety of mode-specific tweaks to the current suite. The patch just released on Xbox One over the past few hours, so testers are likely eagerly watching that process to make sure everything goes smoothly. Regardless, 2K’s attention to detail proves shot meter revisions are among the top future priorities. NBA 2K titles get updated pretty frequently, so the wait shouldn’t be too long.

NBA 2K17 is available now on PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC.
