A new showcase video for upcoming survival MMO Dune: Awakening, reveals the title's potential, highlighting its overall gameplay mechanics and features.
Developer Funcom once again took the time to talk about its upcoming game following its Gamescom arrival where it revealed a video on Dune: Awakening. There is one point in the new video that most players will focus on, which starts at the 4:55 mark.
Dune: Awakening Showcase Video
This was when creative director Joel Bylos sat down to explain details about the game and this portion elaborates on the "survive, expand, control" tagline.
He also talked about how it translated into overall character progression and talked about the importance of harvesting flour sand and spice.
These are supposedly various abilities that players will be able to learn to do in Dune: Awakening and there will be a "push and pull" of switching from ranged to melee combat.
The creative director also dropped a few hints without spoiling too much about the game, according to MassivelyOP.
He also talked about the fact that inhaling spice in the game will cause players to see visions or enhance their abilities in some way. Bylos confirmed that you will not have to join with the game's two major factions if you don't want to.
Even if you go independent, you will still be able to take on contracts or participate in the Landsraad. However, the creative director said that it would be a shame for players not to take part in the faction system and get the benefits that come with them.
In Dune: Awakening, players will have to master the art of resource management by gathering essential materials. The showcase video revealed that flour sand and spice are needed to craft weapons, armor, and other crucial items, said MMOS.
A Beautiful-Looking Survival MMO
It also showed players that establishing settlement and asserting control over the harsh deserts of Arrakis are key to surviving and dominating the unforgiving planet.
Survival is not only about harvesting resources and you also need to develop needed skills to face various threats in the desert.
Available footage of Dune: Awakening shows that it is a lot more technically polished than Funcom's other game, Conan Exiles. The former has much more impressive visuals, animation, and combat mechanics.
Dune: Awakening is set to be a AAA title but it has to overcome the crowdedness of the open-world survival market in order to survive and thrive, just like what it tasks players to do in the game, according to GameRant.
