Citing “sources close to Tom Hiddleston” Birth.Movies.Death claims The Avengers, High-Rise and Crimson Peak star is likely to be the next James Bond after Daniel Craig. Their anonymous sources have confirmed that Hiddleston is deep in talks to take over as 007, though he has yet to be officially cast.
Of course, as Birth.Movies.Death points out, this could very well be another negotiating tactic to draw Craig back to the role, like when Louis C.K. is used as a ringer for The Tonight Show negotiations in two episodes of his eponymous show. But, since Craig turned down a reported $100 million offer, this tactic seems unlikely to bear fruit.
Though Hiddleston is best known as Loki in The Avengers , his appearance in all varieties of horror movies and oddball pictures like High-Rise show of an impressive range and a tendency for weirder performances than his English good looks would suggest. It would be fascinating to see what he’ll bring to the James Bond role.
The news is sure to disappoint fans hoping for Idris Elba, who have been petitioning Eon Productions to cast the other Thor character actor for years.
With this advanced leak of Hiddleston’s casting, expect an official announcement of our new James Bond sooner rather than later.
