While answering fan questions on Twitter, Top Dawg CEO Anthony ‘Top Dawg’ Tiffith confirmed Schoolboy Q has an album on the way. Expect the L.A. rapper’s second studio album to drop this Spring. No album title or specific release date has been revealed quite yet.
Back in January, Top Dawg announced labelmates SZA, Isaiah Rashad, and Ab-Soul will also release albums in 2016. It appears Q’s album will be the first release.
Schoolboy Q’s Oxymoron was a force to be reckoned with on the charts. Ranking #1 on the US Billboard 200, the album sold 140,000 copies in the first week. You may remember hearing "Collard Greens", "Man of the Year", "Break the Bank", "Hell of a Night," and of course, “Studio” all over the radio in 2014. As a member of Top Dawg’s hip hop group, Black Hippy, Q has worked closely with fellow members Kendrick Lamar, Jay Rock, and Ab-Soul. Since the start of his music career in 2008, he’s also collaborated with artists including BJ The Chicago Kid, Jhene Aiko, A$AP Rocky, Mac Miller, Tinashe, Chris Brown, Tyga, Tyler The Creator, Smoke DZA, Childish Gambino, and producers such as The Alchemist, Pharrell, and Mike WiLL Made-It.
So what does Q have in store for his sophomore album? He recently shared a snippet on Instagram. In a second post, Q wrote the caption, “Bumpin’ the new album.” Does that mean it’s all finished? Listen below:
We’ll have to wait to find out what else Q has for us. In the meantime, listen to the following tracks to hear what Q was up to in 2015.
