Octopath Traveler, which was formerly only available on the Nintendo Switch, is now available for pre-purchase on Steam for PC... with some caveats.
First off, the good: Octopath Traveler’s release date on the platform has been confirmed for June 7, which is less than a month from now. With that in mind, Square Enix, Octopath Traveler’s publisher, have opened the game up for pre-purchases on its Steam page.
Pre-purchasing Octopath Traveler on Steam is moot if you don’t know what kind of hardware you should be carrying for the title. In order to avoid any mishaps in running Octopath Traveler, Square Enix has released the system requirements for the game on its Steam page, which can be found here.
MINIMUM:

RECOMMENDED:
- Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system

- Processor: AMD Ryzen 3 1200 / Intel Core i5-6400

- DirectX: Version 11
- Storage: 5 GB available space
- Sound Card: DirectX Compatible Sound Card
- Additional Notes: Expected Framerate: 60 FPS @ 1920x1080 / Graphics preset: “Very High”. Depending on the monitor and PC graphics card environment and setup used, this title can expand its display resolution to 4K. However, please be aware that 4K resolutions are not officially supported.
Looking at the requirements, it’s very interesting, to say the least. The minimum is very low indeed, but then, this was a game originally developed for the weakest of the three main home consoles. You can probably play and enjoy this even if your system is gimped. There’s no 4K support though, which is kind of disappointing since again, I don’t think this is a very demanding title at all.
Now for the bad: The game costs $60 on Steam to pre-purchase, which is kind of insane. Checking the Nintendo store page and it’s also there for $60, but I guess people have grown used to ports being cheaper than what they were originally priced. Then again, what’s another few months of waiting if you really want to get it for cheap, eh?
Octopath Traveler is set for release on PC through Steam on June 7, 2019. Pre-purchase is now available through the game’s Steam page.
