Rumors have been flying about the PlayStation Neo and Xbox Scorpio, the new consoles that may or may not exist. While we’ve heard stories of how powerful the new Xbox could be and the release dates of a new PlayStation, the latest rumor is about information itself. According to GameStop’s CEO, we’ll be hearing more about the new consoles at E3 in a few weeks.
In an interview with Fox Business, Paul Raines discussed the sales figures for Uncharted 4 before going on about what’s coming up for the retail outlet.
"We'd love to see some virtual reality and some new consoles come in,” Raines said. “We're going to hear about that at E3. But I'd say for investors, GameStop's very healthy and a very resilient company."
Oh? We’re going to be hearing about new consoles at E3? Thanks for the scoop, Paul!
This shouldn’t come as a big surprise given what we already know about the PlayStation Neo and the Xbox Scorpio. According to French multimedia distributor Innelec Media, we’ll be seeing the release of the next Sony console before October. If Kotaku and Polygon’s sources are correct, there will also be a slimmed down Xbox One coming as soon as August, with the rumored upgraded Scorpio console coming next year.
If the release times are that quick, Sony and Microsoft will need to start marketing campaigns soon. An E3 reveal would be the perfect time to make a big announcement, so this all is starting to sound true.
The only console we may not hear about is the upgraded Xbox Scorpio. If the new console is planned for a 2017 release, Microsoft may keep information about it under wraps until a later time, instead focusing attention on the Xbox One Slim.
So what do you think? Are you interested in picking up one of these upgraded consoles? Do you think we'll get an announcement at E3? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
