A new sales brochure for PlayStation VR worked its way onto the web this week, a little more than two months before the virtual reality headset hits retail, confirming new details on the peripheral’s play space requirements and other operational information about PlayStation VR.
A photograph of the new PlayStation VR ad pamphlet was uploaded to image-sharing site Imgur this week, providing updated information for those of us not fortunate enough to have a demo unit nearby. According to the brochure , anyone hoping to play room-scale games on Sony’s virtual reality headset will need an obstacle free area measuring 9.8 feet by 6.2 feet. Height requirements will vary by game. It also recommends limiting usage to those age 12 or older.
So what about those of us who don’t have more than 50 square feet of space to dedicate to our virtual reality habit?
Thankfully, the brochure confirms that stationary games will still be available to those unwilling (or unable) to clear the requested amount of space in their house or apartment. You’ll have to pass on games like Farpoint , that require a bit of movement, but should still be able to enjoy a variety of games from the PlayStation VR launch line-up. There’s no word on whether PlayStation VR will adjust to accommodate smaller play areas, as we’ve seen with the HTC Vive. But more info on the peripheral can be found at PlayStation.com .
For more on PlayStation VR, take a few minutes to check out our hands-on coverage of Thumper , RIGS , GNOG , 100ft Robot Golf ; four of the 30-plus games expected to be available for Sony’s virtual reality headset at launch. Or head down to the comments section and let us know if you’re planning to buy PlayStation VR when it debuts this October.
PlayStation VR is being developed exclusively for PlayStation 4. The upcoming VR headset hits stores on Oct. 13.
