John Hanke, CEO of Niantic, took to the stage at TechCrunch, a San Francisco tech conference created by TechCrunch , Tuesday afternoon to discuss Pokémon Go and the future of the game. Here are a few highlights from the 20-minute talk:
When asked if you could actually find Ditto, Hanke said that Ditto is in the game and “you will find” it. That’s good news for most players that assumed Ditto was inaccessible since no player has ever found it .
Pokémon Go has lost a significant number of users since it’s initial launch, but is still going strong. Hanke wouldn’t say the actual numbers, but he assured those in attendance the game is still going strong two months after release.
Is Pokémon Go coming to Android Wear? “Pretty likely,” says Hanke.
Battling is currently not being worked on the by Niantic team, but Hanke said it will “make it to our roadmap.”
The content in the game right now is just the “tip of the iceberg” Hanke said, and players should expect a lot more stuff “interesting” stuff coming to the game in the near future.
The team at Niantic are working on special events, like Ingress has, but creating events for tens of thousands of players isn’t easy. “Events will be part of the future,” says Hanke. Niantic is also waiting for the "craziness of the launch to die down" in order to add these events. If these events will give us any legendaries is entirely unknown.
- The biggest reveal was that new Pokémon will most likely come from events. When asked about new generations of Pokémon making their way into the game, Hanke said his team is working on events to integrate other generations of Pokémon into the Augmented Reality sensation. If I have to wait for an event to get Qwilfish, I most definitely will.
