If you’re in Cleveland for the RNC, there are a ton of places to find Pokémon in Pokémon Go in the areas surrounding the convention. We’ve got the lowdown on where to go.
It’s a very important week for the American people as the Republican National Convention kicked off Monday in Cleveland. The stage is set at the Quicken Loans Arena for Donald Trump, who is set to formally accept the Republican nomination on July 21. And while there will be many adult conversations about Donald Trump’s character, his values and his impact to our nation should he become president, there will still be some of us that are a little less mature... and more concerned about satiating our obsession for Pokémon Go. Good news: there are tons at the RNC.
Although we aren’t in Cleveland to join the Poké-revelry (we’re based in New York, after all), we do know there are many Pokéstops in and around the Quicken Loans Arena. Pokémon Go heavily draws from Niantic Labs' other real-world exploration game Ingress , which features an worldwide map online that indicates all notable landmarks. Niantic “touched up” on the data for Pokémon Go , but essentially the portal locations on Ingress double as Pokéstops for Pokémon Go.
The image below indicates all the portals, marked in green or blue, that surround the Quicken Loans Arena:
So what sort of Pokémon should we expect to find at the RNC? According to Yahoo News’ Hunter Walker, walking around the convention floor yielded a Drowzee, Pidgey, Weedle, Spearow and Gastly. Walker encountered an Abra as well, but sadly couldn’t capture the slippery Psychic.
Many other RNC attendees are taking advantage of the GOP Convention’s fertile Pokémon hunting ground as well. USA Today’s Digital Editor, Natalie DiBlasio, created a Periscope live stream of all the ‘mon she finds:
Last but not least, the Quicken Loans Arena houses a gym as well. Yes, there’s a Pokémon Go gym inside the convention! We can only guess how many times the gym will change hands between Team Valor, Mystic and Instinct in the days ahead.
Will you venture to the Republican National Convention to catch some Pokémon this week? Let us know what you find!
