Following the Pokémon Sun and Moon leak on June 30, The Pokémon Company has released an English trailer featuring the new Pokémon and updated the official site with fresh information regarding the upcoming games.
While there was some minor news (like the return of riding Pokémon), we compiled some information trainers absolutely need to know before Sun and Moon release in November.
But before you do, watch the English trailer with the new Pokémon of Sun and Moon.
TAPU KOKO HAS A NEW ATTACK AND POSSIBLY A NEW FORME
Tapu Koko was the first of the seven leaked Pokémon, and the Electric and Fairy-type looks to play a big role in Sun and Moon.
Trainers may recognize the name from the E3 2016 presentation where its name was mentioned during the ceremonial battle between your trainer and Hau. And the official Pokémon website confirms Tapu Koko is the guardian of Melemele Island, the first Island your trainer will explore.
However, Tapu Koko will have new attacks and abilities. Electric Surge will immediately place Electric Terrain on the field, which powers up Electric-type attacks for anyone touching the ground and prevents sleep.
Nature’s Madness is a physical attack Tapu Koko uses to reduce an opponent’s HP by half. This seems similar to Super Fang and gives Tapu Koko a supportive moveset.
A small tidbit from the Pokémon site reveals Tapu Koko can possibly transform or change its stance.
“ Tapu Koko can store up electricity by enclosing itself in the shells on its arms. And it also appears to enter this form during other, special times…”
Only time will tell what this description means.
CHARJABUG AND VIKAVOLT BRING THE THUNDER
Grubbin’s evolutionary line includes Charjabug and Vikavolt. Charjabug is the middle evolution that has the unique ability, Battery, which powers up your team’s Special Attacks.
This is especially good in Double Battles where Battery powers up the Special Attack of the partner. With this ability, slap an Eviolite on Charjabug and support your other Pokémon.
Vikavolt , on the other hand, appears to be the offensive powerhouse option for trainers. With the Levitate ability, trainers can avoid Ground-type attacks and keep on attacking.
NEKKOALA AND IWANKA GET ENGLISH NAMES
CoroCoro revealed two new Pokémon in June: the Koala Pokémon, Nekkoala, and the rock dog, Iwanka.
But with the July 1 update, these two Pokémon have new English names.
Nekkoala is now known as Komala . Its ability Comatose prevents any status effects that are not Sleep.
Iwanka is now known as Rockruff, and there is a bit more information regarding this Rock-type dog that supposedly shares a common secret with the Alola starters.
According to the official Pokémon site , “ Rockruff is a sociable Pokémon, but as it grows, its disposition gets wilder. If it begins to howl when the sun goes down, that is proof that it’s close to evolving. It’s said that it leaves its Trainer’s side to evolve and returns again when fully evolved.”
Add to all this the fact that Rockruff can learn Bite; this seems to point to Rockruff evolving into a Rock and Dark-type Pokémon.
ZYGARDE FORMES EXPLAINED
Zygarde will play a role in Sun and Moon , that’s a given, though the way this Legendary Pokémon will insert itself into the Alola Region remains unknown. However, more information regarding its new ability, attacks and formes were updated on the Pokémon site.
Zygarde 10% will be available in Sun and Moon , with the abilities Aura Break (the X and Y ability for Zygarde) and Power Construct.
Thousand Arrows and Thousand Waves are new attacks for Zygarde that actually have some interesting effects.
“Thousand Arrows is a move that only Zygarde can learn. It’s a Ground-type move, but it can do damage even to Flying types and Pokémon with the Levitate Ability. After being hit by this move, Flying types and Pokémon with the Levitate Ability will also continue to take damage from other Ground-type moves used in subsequent turns.
“Thousand Waves is also a move that only Zygarde can learn. This move makes it impossible for an opponent to flee or be swapped out of battle.”
Zygarde 50% will also have the Aura Break and Power Construct abilities and interestingly enough, Zygarde 10% doesn’t change to 50%. It goes directly to the Complete Forme once its HP drops below half.
As for Zygarde Complete Forme , its new move Core Enforcer can erase the Abilities of any opponents that have already used a move on the same turn.
And that’s everything you need to know about the July 1 Pokémon Sun and Moon update.
