In what was sure a surprise, Chandelure is the mystery new Pokémon in Pokken Tournament.

After the tease last week regarding the next Pokémon in Pokken Tournament, the Tekken/ Pokémon mashup has announced on its website that the Fire/Ghost type Chandelure was the Pokémon with ‘La’ in its Japanese name to be added.

While there was no gameplay footage accompanying the announcement, according to Serebii the new Chandelure Pokken Tournament gameplay trailer will be released during a special fighting competition on Jan. 31.

We’ll get that Chandelure gameplay trailer up as soon as it get released.

Chandelure’s inclusion in Pokken Tournament comes as a shock to many players because of the other candidates that could have met the critera for Pokken Tournament’s tease. One Pokémon in particular, Swampert, seemed the likeliest choice to join Blaziken and Sceptile (the other Hoenn starter Pokémon) in battle.

The Chandelure reveal for Pokken Tournament comes only a few days after the January issue of CoroCoro leaked showing three new Pokémon were to join the fighting game. Those three Pokemon turned out to be Garchomp, Braixen and standard Mewtwo -- not to be confused with Shadow Mewtwo .

With the three CoroCoro fighters and the now revealed Chandelure, the Pokken Tournament roster is now a hefty 16 Pokémon.

Pokken Tournament for the Nintendo Wii U is set to release March 18 in Japan with a Spring 2016 release date window for the rest of the world.
