Project Scorpio, the next console from Microsoft, is said to feature a trade-in program for Xbox One owners who want to upgrade to the more powerful machine. This news comes from the U.K.’s Daily Star.

When asked if there would be anything special for Xbox One owners who want to upgrade to Project Scorpio, Dave McCarthy, general manager at Xbox Services, said, "Some of our retail partners today do trade-in programs and [those are] definitely going to be partnerships we continue to move going forward.” He added, "We want to make that transition as smooth as possible.”

To make things even smoother, McCarthy mentioned Microsoft might step in to make deals even better for Xbox One owners. "We’ll try partnerships with our retail partners to smooth it even more with trade-in programs and things like that," he said.

The goal is to make Xbox One gamers not feel excluded, whether that be if they use a PC, the Xbox One S or the new Project Scorpio. "The compatibility thing is a big deal, because you feeling you have to give up your games isn’t a good feeling, so we take that angst out of the equation,” McCarthy said.

All of this lines up with Microsoft’s Xbox Play Anywhere initiative, where gamers who buy an “Xbox Play Anywhere” game can pick up right where they left off on an Xbox One, Project Scorpio or PC. One game purchase unlocks access on any console. While not every game coming to Xbox One will be in the Xbox Play Anywhere program, every Xbox One game WILL work with Project Scorpio and vice versa.

No specifics on trade-in programs were given, and we still don’t even know when the Project Scorpio is getting released or how much it will cost. Heck, we aren’t even quite sure what the Project Scorpio is. All we know for certain is it’s the next console from Microsoft, will feature robust 4K gaming, has the support of several top dogs in the gaming industry and should be releasing in the 2017 holiday season.

So what do you think? Will you trade in your Xbox One console to upgrade to the Scorpio? Are you happy with what you already have? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
