New information about Resident Evil 7 may have leaked online, revealing further details about the game’s new direction.
A Neogaf thread allegedly details an article from a Spanish-language gaming magazine called Hobby Consolas and a rumored official press release from Capcom regarding Resident Evil 7 . Here’s a few highlights from the leaked information.
Plot Details (Spoiler-free)
Resident Evil 7 will follow the story of Ethan, who travels to Dulvey, La. on the hunt for clues about his missing wife Mia. Ethan moves slowly and you’ll allegedly never get to see his face. The game will ditch the traditional zombies and focus on new enemies called “Holoforms.” The “Holoforms” are hybrid, predator-like creatures that you must dismember to kill. You will encounter a lot of jump scares, especially with the Baker family.
Speaking of the Baker family, the Neogaf poster claims the Baker family will require a lot of bullets to kill, so you might want to stock up on ammo. Camila Baker, the matriarch, will also scare the shit out of you.
Weapons/Accessories
According to the Neogaf thread, Ethan possess an item called the “codec,” which is essentially a smart watch you can use to check your stats throughout the game. Some of the weapons Ethan will find are a knife, flamethrower, handgun, shotgun and chainsaw. It wouldn’t be a horror game without a chainsaw, right?
Anyway, something really important to know is ammo is allegedly limited in the game. You’ll probably want to get creative with your kills and run away from enemies whenever you can, if this information is accurate. There also may be health and weapons upgrades throughout the game.
Mini Games
Resident Evil 7 is rumored to be littered with puzzles and mini games, but the ones you need to get through to progress the main storyline won’t be too challenging for players. The leaked information claims the VHS tapes hidden throughout the game contain different mini-games for players to have fun with. The tapes feature a variety of story elements, some featuring Ethan’s missing wife.
