You’ll see some familiar faces in Resident Evil 7 biohazard , but don’t expect a lot of classic cameos. Capcom wants to “scale back” on bringing in past characters in the upcoming game, according to voice actor Matt Mercer.
Mercer shared his thoughts to Gamespot about Resident Evil 7 biohazard and possibly reprising his role as Leon, who we first saw in Resident Evil 4 . Mercer told the online publication he hasn’t been asked to voice Leon, but would consider it if Capcom offered him the opportunity.
"As far as 7 goes, I think they're scaling back a little bit on throwing in all the classic cameos," Mercer said. "I can say that I don't have any involvement in 7 directly. But I think it's also good of them, especially coming off of [ Resident Evil 6 ] and its lukewarm reception, to go ahead and reestablish their roots and maybe start an original story… And if they decide that that does well, maybe they can then marry it in with the previous stories."
Mercer went on to gush about Leon to Gamespot, adding how much he loved playing the character and would definitely step back in his shoes. Still, it seems like Capcom might be going for a different vibe with Resident Evil 7 biohazard .
The last trailer for Resident Evil 7 biohazard featured a found-footage style of video from a girl named Mia. We don’t know much about Mia, but the video showed her hiding from a scary woman named Marguerite, who gave us the best Lisa from Silent Hills P.T. vibe.
Resident Evil 7 biohazard will be released exclusively for the PS4 on Jan. 24, 2017.
