Capcom, the famous video game developer and publisher hailing from Japan, recently shared exciting news on Twitter. The company announced that Resident Evil Village, its second latest release, has achieved an impressive sales milestone, with over 8 million copies sold worldwide, an incredible financial success.
Resident Evil Village, the eighth main installment in the iconic Resident Evil series, hit the shelves on May 7, 2021. It immediately captured the attention of gamers worldwide thanks to its thrilling gameplay, scary atmosphere, and stunning visuals.
In Resident Evil Village, players once again take on the role of Ethan Winters, the protagonist from Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. This time around, it's his newborn daughter that has gone missing. Throughout their journey, players will encounter intriguing characters, including the fan-favorite Lady Dimitrescu.
The success of Resident Evil Village can also be credited to Capcom's commitment to providing ongoing support and content for its games. It received multiple expansions and updates that improved the base game and added more content. The biggest of which was the Shadows of Rose expansion, which served as an epilogue to Ethan Winters' story. This DLC, set 16 years after the base game, allows players to take on the role of Rose Winters, Ethan's daughter.
Resident Evil Village marks the conclusion of Ethan Winters' story. Initially released for PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5 and the now-closed cloud gaming service called Stadia, the game also made its way to macOS and Nintendo Switch in October 2022. In February 2023, an exclusive VR version was released for PS VR 2.
RE Village isn't the only Resident Evil game Capcom released recently. Just a few months ago, the developer launched Resident Evil 4 Remake and like RE Village, it also received critical reception from both fans and critics. The remake sold more than 4 million copies in the first two weeks of its release.
