Rick and Morty Season 2 has come to an end and now we settle in for the long wait until the Rick and Morty Season 3 premiere. But will the Rick and Morty Season 3 release date even land in 2016 or are we doomed to a Rick and Morty free year? Rick and Morty co-creators Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon had Mr. Poopybutthole do the speaking for them during the Rick and Morty Season 2 finale after credits sequence:
Rick and Morty Season 2 Finale: Mr. Poopybutthole On Season 3
Mr. Poopybutthole presents what had seemed like the worst-case Rick and Morty Season 3 release date scenario—a year and half away—as the best-case scenario. Uh oh.
The Rick and Morty Season 1 release date fell on Dec. 2, 2013, with the season concluding with episode 10 “Ricksy Business” on April 14, 2014. The premiere of Rick and Morty Season 2 came over one year and three months later, with “A Rickle In Time” landing on a July 26 premiere date.
While it seemed reasonable to imagine Rick and Morty would settle into a yearly season premiere date, landing Rick and Morty Season 3 in July of 2016, Mr. Poopybutthole killed that little dream, “Tune into Rick and Morty Season 3 in like… a year and a half… or longer, to see how we unravel this mess. Ooh-whee.”
So if Mr. Poopybutthole’s best-case scenario comes true the Rick and Morty Season 3 release date will be March 5, 2017. Ugh, that’s bad, right?
Our best hope is that Mr. Poopybutthole is wrong about the Rick and Morty Season 3 release date and we’ll see it, as expected, in summer 2016. But since Mr. Poopybutthole is such a decent and good family friend, I doubt he’d lie to us.
So what did you think of that finale? Do you think the Smith family is going to be okayyy?
