Riot, the creators of League of Legends, might be releasing a brand new board game called Mechs vs. Minions very soon. Shutupandsitdown, a board game and wargaming news site, announced on their game news roundup that Riot has been working on this board game for a while and should be ready to ship “in just a few months.”
Mechs vs. Minions will have “co-operative campaign game where up to four players each program robots that then go stomping, blasting and carving their way through a crowd of tiny warriors trying to kill you” according to Quinns, who writes for SUSD and consulted on the game. It will cost “around $80” and “the retail price is literally 50% of what I’d expect another publisher to charge,” Quinns says.
The game has not been officially announced yet and quickly after the post went up, Shutupandsitdown scrubbed all mention of Mechs vs. Minions from their site. Still, we have the cached information, which contains all the leaked information about the game, including some amazing minion and Yordle models. In the leaked pictures, we can see some special dice, an hourglass, special cards, tokens and more. That Heimerdinger riding a robot is something I need to have right now.
Another piece of evidence is that the domain for “Mechs vs. Minions” was grabbed by a “corporate client” of MarkMonitor, a domain management and protection service, in June. Riot has worked with MarkMonitor before, they secured the domain leagueoflegends.com in 2010 along with a few “esports” domains in 2013 . Jamie Zoch, a self-proclaimed “domain name specialist” tweeted this out:
iDigitalTimes has reached out to Riot and will update this post with their statement.
