Riot Urges 'League of Legends' Fans To Avoid Betting Site Gamestars.gg

Gamestars.gg, a site that sets up League of Legends tournaments for money is under heavy fire after a video created by JP AwesomeSauce hit the front page of the League subreddit. On the site, you bet and place chips for a chance to win money, but it’s not as simple as that.

Gamestars won’t allow you to take out any money unless you have at least $30 in your “V.I.P.” account, which is your own money you put in, and then takes seven percent each time you withdraw. You need 30 times the amount of money in your main account in order to withdraw any money. From an $83 game, you would only make $2.58.

On the reddit thread, Riot Sargonas made it clear that they know about this site and do not endorse it in any way.

In the thread, users asked why Riot just doesn't release a database of all the sites that they trust and endorse. Riot Sargonas explains that it just isn’t that simple.

Famous streamers like Nightblue3 and Imaqtpie are sponsored by Gamestars and talk about how great the site is. Streamers have devoted fan bases, which often believe the products streamers endorse are legit. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be the case here; Imaqtpie is also sponsored by G2A.com, a site that’s come under a ton of scrutiny for selling illegal game codes and was banned from sponsoring League of Legends teams.

As a community, we have to make sure sites like this don’t stick around. Some players might believe Riot supports Gamestars and fall into their trap. Tweet at these streamers, and tell them to stop their Gamestars sponsorships.
