Entertainment Weekly is slowly spooling out details from its blow-out Rogue One: A Star Wars Story cover feature. The latest reveal is a full profile for every character in its extensive cast of Rebel Alliance heroes. There’s a lot of intriguing information to pick through here, but the most interesting spoiler reveal may be what they’re refusing to say: the exact identity of Forest Whitaker’s character.

According to EW, Whitaker plays a character we all know from existing Star Wars stories. “This character has a past that Star Wars completists will recognize immediately when they see his name, even if he looks very different than the way they've seen him elsewhere.”

Well, that’s cryptic.

Here’s my best theory: Forest Whitaker will be playing a clone trooper in Rogue One. More specifically, the model of clone seen in animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels . One of these guys:

Aging warriors with no real cause since the end of the Clone Wars, this would be the perfect figure to embody both the honor and tragedy of the warrior’s life, a key theme in the Rogue One trailer.

Any theories of your own before EW finally reveals Forest Whitaker’s real identity in Rogue One?
