Publisher Koei Tecmo has just announced the release of Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIV, the latest entry In the popular strategy game series.
Originating in 1985, thirteen installments for the game have been published all over the world. Romance of the Three Kingdoms is a tactical, turn-based RPG strategy title based on the Romance of the Three Kingdoms novel and the historical text Records of the Three Kingdoms. The plotline for the game takes place during the Han Dynasty in China, which is populated with many warring factions that included the Shu Han, Cao Wei and Eastern Wu Kingdoms. As for Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIV, here are the initial details released by Koei Tecmo.
First off, the big headline is "One Big Map Where Multiple Scenes Occur," wherein both Domestic commands and battle occur on the same map. Each turn has players cycling through the strategy phase, in which players queue instructions for both the domain and the battlefield, and the advance phase, where the instructions are put into effect.
Next is “New Element: War Front” wherein all of China is divided into small hexagonal divisions, and each division represents the amount of income for each faction. Each division can be obtained by simply occupying it with your troops. Place your troops strategically, as surrounding enemy units or cutting off connections with enemy cities can also give you an advantage, aside from the financial gain.
As with the previous Romance of the Three Kingdoms games, multiple characters are important to your success. Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIV introduces more than 1,000 officers, which is a series high. Commanding them may not always be fruitful, but certain officers now can suggest commands of their own.
Lastly, players can now configure the government of each faction. This can provide bonus effects which will be dependent on the organization chart, which rests on the ideology of the ruler.
Koei Tecmo has not specified a date yet, but Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIV will release for the PlayStation 4 and PC in Japan this winter.
