The Sim 4:Dine Out is due June 7 and for the most part we know what to expect. Similar to past incarnations of restaurant expansion packs, we’ll get a host of new venues and more social gameplay. This time, however, we’re going to be able to manage our own restaurants and taste ‘experimental’ foods from a variety of cuisines. What exactly does that mean? On Thursday, EA served us a taste of what’s to come with a few new game pack details.
Thursday’s press release hints at a host of never-before-seen dishes and recipes. The Sims team describes the new food as “bizarre and tantalizing.” These new dishes are bound to make Sims react in a way we’ve never seen before. While the goal of the experimental food is to “wow your Sims,” they won’t be shy if they find it disgusting. (How fun would it be to see a Sim spit out a mouthful of food!)
There’s more to these experimental dishes than meets the eye. Some are equipped with amazing new animations that are sure to impress (or disgust) your Sims. “We wanted to create beautiful, avant-garde dishes that seem like they come from a celebrity chef on an amazing cable TV show. The dishes are bright, bold, and beautiful, and full of life.” Uh oh, watch out for those octopus tentacles.
The Volcano Pasta features flowing lava, the Jungle Moss Egg is beautified with Lavender Wisps, the Bacon Love Petals are straight out of a food magazine, and we have no idea what the Cubed Ahi with Veggie Wasabi Matrix means.
If your Sims are brave enough to try these new dishes (there will be boring options for those basic Sims), they’ll be awarded with “a slew of powerful and fascinating Moodlets that will represent exactly how your Sims feel about the flavours bombarding their digital palates.” Discuss how you feel about the dishes at the table with a host of new social options. Bolster your experimental food rep by tasting every dish in town.
There are countless lingering questions ahead of Dine Out’ s June 7 release. Can you make experimental cuisine at home, or only order it at restaurants? Are there three separate menus for breakfast, lunch, and dinner? How will Sims react if they hate a dish?
