SpicyTails is bringing the light novel series, Spice and Wolf, to the world of virtual reality, and it will be available for Nintendo Labo’s Toy-Con VR Goggles.

Spice and Wolf is set in historical times with European influences, and tells the story of a 25-year-old travelling merchant, Kraft Lawrence. He makes his living peddling a variety a goods in each town he visits for seven years. He dreams of one day earning enough money to build his own shop. Kraft then encounters an over 600-year-old wolf-deity named Holo in a town called Pasloe. She takes on the form of a 15-year-old girl with a wolf’s tail and ears. Holo is Pasloe’s goddess of harvest. She has kept the town blessed with plentiful harvests of wheat for a very long time. However, as the people have found new ways to increase their harvest, it seems like they no longer have the need for Holo. With this in mind, Holo bargains with Kraft to take her with him so that she can see how the world has changed and go back to her hometown in the North. Kraft was convinced so he takes her with him, earning knowledge from Holo in return.

Last month, Spice and Wolf was announced for a release on June 3 for PC, Oculus Rift, Oculus Go, and HTC Vive. Then, it was released for the PlayStation 4 via PlayStation VR support. Now, Nintendo has finally joined the list of platforms for this virtual reality experience with their Toy-Con VR Goggles.

Other than the Main Mode where you can watch the anime within the virtual reality space, there is also an Interactive Mode which has many excited. Through this Interactive Mode, you will be able to pat Holo’s head or pet her tail. You can also examine and move objects inside the world. Unfirtunately, SpicyTails said that the Interactive Mode is limited to the PC, Oculus Go, and Switch versions.

For those of you who will be attending the BitSummit 7 Spirits conference on June 1 and June 2, you might want to visit Gemdrops’ booth, because Spice and Wolf will be playable there. If you have an Oculus Rift, Oculus Go, or an HTC Vive, you can get the game for $24.99 on June 3. What do you think about this newest virtual reality experience?
