During the PlayStation 5 reveal event, Sony highlighted a brand new Spider-Man game that takes fans on a web-swinging journey in the shoes of Miles Morales. The game is set to release for the next-gen console this holiday season.
Spider-Man: Miles Morales is actually a follow-up to 2018's Spider-Man that starred Peter Parker. In Spider-Man 2018, we saw Miles being bitten by a mysterious spider that was genetically enhanced. This resulted in Miles acquiring similar superpowers to Peter Parker. Miles also shared his story with Peter over the course of the game. Spider-Man eventually went on to get some DLC, which explored the same story. The DLC ended with Peter Parker teaching Miles how to web swing for the very first time.
Spider-Man: Miles Morales will be a standalone game with Miles Morales as the protagonist. Miles will be sporting his iconic red and black Spider-Man suit. Miles also has his own unique venom stinger superpower. If you paid attention to the reveal trailer of Spider-Man: Miles Morales, you might have heard Peter Parker asking Miles to become the hero that the city needs.
In the first 24 hours of the game's reveal, there was a bit of confusion across the internet concerning whether Spider-Man: Miles Morales is going to be a standalone game or a DLC expansion to the base Spider-Man. However, Insomniac Games later on confirmed that the game is indeed going to be a full-fledged standalone Spider-Man game. Still, it is unclear how this game will turn out to be in regards to Spider-Man's story. The most likely situation is Miles Morales will be a title similar to Uncharted: Lost Legacy or even Infamous: First Light. That is, something too long to serve as traditional DLC, but not quite long enough to be a full game.
Later on, Sony's Jim Ryan also stated that they don't want to spread any misinformation and it wouldn't be professional of them to reveal "bite-sized" games to fans.
With that being said, if you still haven't played Marvel's Spider-Man on the PlayStation 4, you better give it a shot before Miles Morales takes center stage.
