The remake of the critically-acclaimed title, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic, has been worrying many fans these last few weeks. According to Stephen Totilo, an Axios Gaming reporter, the highly anticipated title could be back on track.
Totilo claimed that the Swedish video game company, Embracer Group, has given one of its AAA games to another studio. The decision to switch was to make sure that the game meets the quality bar; the new studio is also part of the group. Although not outright confirmed, it is clear that the game in question is KOTOR Remake.
Developer Changed
This news shouldn’t come as a surprise. Jason Schreier reported last month that the game has been put on hold, and Aspyr Media has been taken off the project. According to the report, a big portion of time and money was spent on a demo that failed to impress representatives of Lucasfilm Ltd. LLC and Sony Group Corp.
Embracer announced in May that Saber Interactive has also joined the project. So, Saber could be the new studio to lead the game development. However, we are still waiting for an official announcement.
We have yet to know how badly the remake was affected by development trouble. Given that the game is switching developers, I am sure we won’t be playing the title anytime soon. In Schreier’s report, the developer said that 2025 is a more realistic target.
About the Remake
The original game is almost two decades old and is still considered one of the best Star Wars games. The upcoming remake will have big shoes to fill. No matter how good the final product may be, it still won’t be able to satisfy every fan.
KOTOR Remake will launch on PS5 and PC. However, there is a chance that Xbox players can also enjoy the game. The remake has a timed console exclusivity deal with Sony, meaning an Xbox port could be released after the period ends.
