Things aren’t going so great over at Mad Catz, but developer Harmonix still wants to see Rock Band 4 released on PC. That’s where you come in, as Harmonix is currently crowdfunding to raise money for the port.
The PC version of Rock Band 4 will also include a relaunched Rock Band Network. Rock Band Network used to be a way for players to get their music into the game. Back when the service originally launched, the process to do so was incredibly complex. This new version of Rock Band Network will use Steam Workshop to carry most of the load, making it much easier for everyone involved to play new custom music.
Sadly, because the service will rely so heavily on Steam Workshop, Rock Band Network will not be coming to the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Rock Band 4. Harmonix has mentioned a possibility for the most popular Rock Band Network songs to get brought over to PS4 and Xbox One, but that will be determined at a later date.
Rock Band 4 is also only coming to Windows PCs. There are currently no plans for a Mac, Linux or SteamOS version of the game. Thankfully, pretty much every instrument made should work on PC, regardless of if it’s an Xbox, PlayStation or third-party controller.
It will only cost $49.99 on Fig to secure your own copy of Rock Band 4 on PC. If you wait until the game’s launch on Steam, you’ll end up paying an extra $10 to get your copy. Of course, other tiers are available for backers if they want to get more or less goodies with their donation.
No official release date has been given for Rock Band 4 on PC. Harmonix has mentioned that the port should be getting released some time this fall, but also acknowledged that delays can often strike when working on projects.
