While rumors are swirling around right now about how there will be no main Assassin's Creed game this year, that doesn't mean the franchise is completely gone from 2016. That's where Assassin's Creed Chronicles: India comes in. Continuing the Chronicles line of games, Assassin's Creed Chronicles: India will feature a new protagonist in a time not yet explored in any previous games.
As the trailer above shows, Assassin's Creed Chronicles: India is set in 1841. It is during this time period that the Sikh Empire was getting fed up with the East India Company and their exploitative practices. Players take on the role of Arbaaz Mir, a Master Assassin who must fight against the Templars to rescue the love of his life.
Gameplay will be different from more traditional Assassin's Creed games. The biggest difference is that everything is more like a 2D sidescroller than anything else. Players will still be tasked with sneaking around guards and infiltrating buildings, but must do it confined to two dimensions instead of the more open-ended 3D worlds found in other games.
There are two major paths for players to take: There's the stealth route and the assault style. Each of these paths will feature unlockable skills and abilities to further help you progress through the story. Players will also be given a whole host of toys to play with, including the rope dart, the sound dart used to distract enemies, and of course, the hidden assassin blade.
Assassin's Creed Chronicles: India will be releasing on Jan. 12 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. There will only be a digital version of the game, so don't go running out to a store to try and find a copy.
