It’s about that time of year—time to look at Game of Thrones spoilers! This year, of course, Game of Thrones season 5 spoilers are the name of the game, and what better place to start than the perennial question: Will Daenerys get back to Westeros this season? What could possibly affect the land of Westeros more than that question, the long-awaited return of the Khaleesi? We’ll take a look at the answer after the jump, in case you’re afraid of spoilers.

So Game of Thrones season 5 is going to start passing the books in a serious way, and will have spoilers for Winds of Winter and possibly even A Dream of Spring. I obviously can’t spoil those for you, O impatient TV watchers, because I am not George R. R. Martin, David Benioff or D.B. Weiss. But I can certainly drop some Dance with Dragons spoilers on you, and I’m more than happy to do so. Here goes:
No, of course Daenerys won’t get back to Westeros in Game of Thrones season 5! It’s a sad truth, but there it is. We’re going to get a whole ‘nother season of our favorite Khaleesi tooling around in Slaver Bay doing nothing. Well, that’s not quite accurate: her story arc in Dance With Dragons and therefore presumably season 5 is somewhat more interesting, and may come as a bit of a downer for hardcore Daenerys fans.
As far as Game of Thrones season 5 spoilers go, it’s a good one: Daenerys’s arc in Dance is about her slowly losing control of Meereen and the rest of Slaver’s Bay. She came in as a conqueror and is trying to become a ruler, and she will soon discover that is very difficult indeed. And she will make increasingly bad decisions, or at least decisions with bad consequences. She’ll marry Hizdahr zo Loraq to put a stop to the increasing terrorism of which he, most likely, is the cause. She’ll let Astapor and Yunkai fall into murderous chaos while she focuses on Meereen. In the eyes of many, she will become a tyrant.
And at the end of Dance with Dragons, at the end of Game of Thrones season 5, she’ll fly away from Meereen, but not to Westeros. The time will come soon, probably early in Winds of Winter, when Daenerys secures a new khalasar and abandons Slaver’s Bay for Westeros. But that time has not yet arrived—not quite.
Man, I hate Daenerys.
