“Louie” will be returning to television with the “Louie” Season 5 premiere date set for April 9 at 10:30 p.m. on FX. The beloved comedy series, chronicling a fictionalized version of Louis C.K.’s career as a standup comic and parent, “Louie” hasn’t had a new episode since the conclusion of “Louie” Season 4 on June 16, 2014.
While “Louie” had taken on serious issues before, “Louie” Season 2 episode “Eddie” and its frank discussion of suicide comes to mind, “Louie” Season 4 was widely viewed as the series’ most serious, with much of the season dealing with Louie’s complicated relationship with Pamela Adlon. What will the Season 5 premiere of “Louie” feel like?
"Louie" Season 5 Premiere Date on FX
In a recent interview with “Variety” Louis C.K. described what the new Season 5 of “Louie” would be all about. According to Louis, Season 5 of “Louie” “is more laugh-centric funny than Season 4… I had a very playful and goofy feeling going into this season.”
However, unlike “Louie” Season 4, which was the series’ longest, with 14 episodes, “Louie” Season 5 will contain only 8 episodes, beginning on the April 9 premiere date. “Louie” has become known for its sporadic release schedule, with nearly two years between the finale of Season 3 and the premiere of Season 4. Whether the abbreviated schedule for “Season 5” indicates more consistency or a waning interest in the show on Louis C.K.’s part is unknown.
While the official “Louie” website has been updated with the premiere date for Season 5, FX has yet to post additional details about the premiere, with the website copy still trumpeting the return of “Louie” with Season 4. Whoops. Even the official “Louie” Twitter account doesn’t seem to have caught up with the news. Here’s their most recent:
“Louie” Season 4, while darker in tone, continued to be critically lauded, receiving nominations from the Golden Globes, the WGA, SAG, and the DGA, in addition to winning the 2014 Emmy for “Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series.”
Like in previous seasons, Season 5 of “Louie will be written, produced, directed, edited by Louis C.K., who, naturally, is also the star of “Louie.”
“Louie” Season 5 will go up against a number of other big TV shows dropping in April, including the premiere of new seasons of “Game of Thrones,” “Silicon Valley,” “Mad Men,” and the hotly anticipated Netflix-exclusive superhero series, “Daredevil.”
The “Louie” Season 5 premiere date is April 9 on FX.
