Why are there emojis and numbers all over my Snapchat? What do these emojis mean? Can someone please explain this confusing Snapchat update?
These questions and more are flooding social media sites like Twitter and Facebook as avid Snapchat users are desperately trying to internalize the latest Snapchat update.
NEW: Snapchat Emoji Meanings: What Does Hourglass Mean Next To Friends’ Names In New Update?
In the update, the company added features such as low-light mode camera and the creepy micromanaging “needs love” feature, but the most jarring is by far the emoji and numbering system for each friend.
Instead of logging on and seeing your besties ranked at the top of the app, all you Snapchat buds are now being ranked with their own special emoji and numbering system.
Here are the six possible emoji you’ll see on your friends’ profiles and pics along with the meanings.
Snapchat Emoji And Their Meanings Explained
What does Yellow Heart emoji in Snapchat mean? This will appear after the name of your number one best friend, the person who you send the most snaps to who also sends their highest number of snaps to you.
What does the Grimacing Face (showing teeth) emoji in Snapchat mean? Indicates that your number one best friend is also their number one best friend.
What does the Face with Sunglasses ( “cool emoji”) in Snapchat mean?: One of your best friends is one of their best friends. This means that you both send lots of snaps to a certain person.
What does the Smirking Face (flirting or sexual face emoji) mean in Snapchat? Someone who sends you a lot of snaps, but that you don’t send a lot of snaps back to.
What does the Smiling Face emoji mean in Snapchat? A best friend, but not your number one best friend.
What does the Fire (flame emoji or hot emoji) mean in Snapchat? This shows that you have begun a “snapstreak”, by sending this person snaps on consecutive days. If this shows, Snapchat will tell you how many days you’ve kept up the streak.
What Do The Numbers In Snapchat Mean?
So, in addition to ranking your friends with an emoji they deem most appropriate, Snapchat has also decided to get a little more up in your business by giving some of your friends numbers which indicate how many days in a row you have been Snapchatting. Add these factors to the “Needs Love” feature, which highlights those friends you haven’t Snapped with in a while, and this app is turning into a micromanaging second mother.
Overall, the response to the new Snapchat emoji update seems to be mixed. Some people find themselves amused by it and are enjoying the new ranking system while others find it confusing, embarrassing, annoying or just plain dumb.
One good change that has taken place with the emoji update is that your Best Friends list is no longer publicly on display. The emoji and number results you see are now for your eyes only and not everyone in your nearby circle of friends.
