We all know Drake loves Jordans, but now it’s official. Nike has named Drake a Jordan ambassador. The Toronto-born rapper is pictured in a new Super Bowl commercial promoting the #WeAreJordan slogan Sunday.
This doesn’t come as much of a surprise. Drake’s OVO label already has a collaboration with the Jordan brand. The white colorway of the Air Jordan 10 OVO released in September and the black colorway is expected Feb. 13. Drake and Future also dedicated an entire song to the Jordans. “Jumpman,” from Drake and Future’s collab project What A Time To Be Alive , topped the charts upon its release in November.
The advertisement starts off with Drake, wearing a Jumpman headband, reminiscing about his first pair of Jordans. “ Jordan 15 in the White with the Carolina Blue ,” Drake recalls. I’ll never forget it because it was a gift from my father.”
Drake starts describing how putting on a pair of Jordan’s makes him feel. “My life is to go out there and get on that stage, you know, act as if I am Mike,” he says with a glaring smile. “Jordan promotes a winning mentality for anybody in any walk of life.”
Nike isn’t the only company to nab Drake for the Super Bowl. T-Mobile will air a Hotline Bling-inspired advertisement. In the commercial, Drake is seen dancing on set of the music video when reps of the cell carrier tell him to make a few modifications like adding lyrics “streaming music will incur data charges” and “device eligible for upgrade after 24-months.” Drake sarcastically responds, “These changes don’t ruin the song at all.”
Drake recently debuted the first single from his highly anticipated album Views From The 6. “Summer Sixteen” was exclusively previewed on OVO Sounds Beats 1 Radio, but is now available on iTunes . Also check out his collaboration with Rihanna, “Work,” from RiRi’s new album, Anti.
Views From The 6 is expected to release in April.
