Aside form James Olsen’s relationship with both Superman and Supergirl, he has no special abilities besides being an all-star photographer. However, in a recent clip released by The CW, Mehcad Brooks (who plays James Olsen in Supergirl), alluded to the fact he could develop powers at some point. This wouldn’t come as too much of a surprise considering James Olsen develops a variety of powers in the comics, though some are just in the short term.
“James actually had superpowers in the comics, so sticking to canon, I hope I become turtle Boy, or elastic lad. He didn't have the greatest names. Some of the power were cool..but the names, we can work on that,” Brooks said.
Most of James Olsen powers were absurd and only temporary. His variety of transformations range from growing a monstrous beard, to becoming a telepath, or becoming a fire-breathing human. Turtle Boy, where he literally turns into a giant human turtle, is one of his more common transformations. Some of the cooler ones included an alien virus that turned him into Elastic Lad--the ability to stretch himself to infinite lengths. There’s also an Earth-2 version of Jimmy Olsen where he’s a hacktivist known as Accountable. After changing his name to Dr. Impossible in the comics, Jimmy actually helped take down Darkseid and continued to work alongside other superheroes like Hourman.
