Here are the preload details for The Surge 2. Focus Home Interactive

Focus Home Interactive and Deck13 will release The Surge 2 tomorrow, and for those who found themselves enamored with the first game and enjoy a good and thorough challenge with a difficult game, it’s a date to watch out for. The Surge 2 is a sequel to Deck13’s sleeper Souls-like back in 2017, and this iteration promises to expand on the many game mechanics that made the latter such a great game to play, while also cutting down on the jank and clunk that plagued it. The Surge 2 will be releasing for PC on Steam, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

All of that said, let’s take a look at some preload details that everyone interested in the game needs to know, which can also be helpful for players who want to be informed before they finalize their purchases.

What is The Surge 2?

The Surge 2 is a sequel to The Surge, an action game released back in 2017. Though it directly follows up on events from the first game and builds on the same gameplay mechanics, The Surge 2 distinguishes itself through a number of different aspects. First off, The Surge 2 takes on more of a role-playing approach, in that you will create your own character to start your journey in Jericho City. This is in contrast with The Surge, which only lets you play as the set character Warren.

The Surge 2 also includes several multiplayer components to it, like being able to avenge players that died to earn rewards, leaving graffiti which can be rated by other players (similar to soapstone messages in Dark Souls) and – taking a page out from Super Mario Odyssey – a banner-hunting minigame which sees you leaving banners for other players to find, as well as finding other players’ banners to earn tech scrap and prestige.

When can I preload the game?

As of today, The Surge 2 is now available for preloading on Steam for PC, with console platforms also available. It will unlock at different times based on your platform of choice, as well as your location. Check out the official tweet from Deck13 to find out what time you can play The Surge 2.

What editions are available for the game?

The Surge 2 only comes in one standard edition, although there are some extras you can get from pre-ordering. The first is the URBN Gear Pack, a special set of powerful and rather colorful equipment that you can loot from challenging enemies found in the game. This gear pack includes the full-body URBN armor set, as well as the URBN Judgment Axe, a heavy-duty weapon, and the URBN Skimmer Drone.

In addition to the URBN set, players who pre-order will also be treated to an iconic weapon: Warren’s well-used Cutter from The Surge. Players will also get the Lootscan.exe Radar Module for your drone, as well as a unique online message icon for use with your spray module to leave messages for other players.

If you find yourself unable to pre-purchase, this entire pre-order DLC will be made available after the game’s release tomorrow.

The Surge 2 Review - Compellingly Vicious, Satisfyingly Difficult
The Surge 2 is a perfect example of a sequel done right, and in this case Deck13 hit it out of the park to deliver an enhanced action-packed experience with the coolest-feeling combat and a great difficulty curve to match. While not entirely flawless, the sum of all its parts is a game worth the price tag and play time, as The Surge 2 steps out of the shadows of Souls-likes and into its own as a standout action RPG, one of the best I've played this year.
  • Exceptional combat mechanics.
  • Well-implemented RPG system.
  • Interesting level design, dense and filled with secrets and hidden routes.
  • Good difficulty curve, extremely tough at times but completely fair.
  • Improved storyline, with much more interesting characters.
  • Fair bit of replay value.
  • Great art, enemy and world design.
  • Forgettable music.
  • Some technical issues like animation jank and visual bugs.
  • Constant backtracking may prove to be tedious to some people.
