A new gameplay trailer for The Surge debuted on Tuesday morning, two weeks after Focus Home and Deck 13 released new images from the game, and our latest look at The Surge gives more attention to some of the enemies introduced last month. We also get a brief look at the inventory system fans will rely on when The Surge hits stores in 2017.
Four minutes of new The Surge gameplay are now available on YouTube; one of our most substantial looks at the game since it was announced last August. Unsurprisingly, The Surge looks more or less like Dark Souls with a sci-fi facelift, with a deliberate combat pacing sure to punish less-patient players. The action in The Surge looks like it’ll be a bit faster than any of the Dark Souls games, a series it will inevitably be compared to on numerous occasions, but not so fast that anyone would make the mistake of assuming The Surge is a hack-and-slash title.
Only a handful of enemies are featured in this week’s The Surge gameplay trailer, two of which were featured in last month’s screenshots. On the plus side, the new footage does include two substantially different fighting styles. The first half of the new Surge trailer feature shows our hero relying on a long, polearm-like weapon before switching to dual-wielded claw weapons to engage with a faster enemy.
