A new series of Tekken 7 trailers have been rolling out on Bandai Namco’s social media channels, each previewing a handful of combatants from the next entry in the popular fighting game series. The trailers won’t mean much to the diehard Tekken fans, who’ve likely been keeping tabs on the final chapter of the Mishima story since it hit Japanese arcades in 2016. But the new Tekken 7 videos are a great way for those less familiar with the series to get a crash course.
The first video in the series debuted way back in March. The three minute clip features a mix of new and returning brawlers, including Bob, Bryan, Devil Jin, Fen and Marshall Law. Each fighter gets a few seconds of onscreen action, enough time for a quick a beatdown, and to show viewers a combo or two from the character’s repertoire. Then the action pivots to whoever was just taking a beatdown and gives them a few seconds to respond.
It took almost two months for the next video in the series to emerge; another three-minute video that spotlighted another assortment of participants from the next King of Iron Fist tournament. The second character trailer for Tekken 7 emerged earlier this month and features appearances from classic characters like Jack, King and Steve. Sadly, there’s no sign of the Bullet Club content that hit Tekken 7 earlier this year. But there’s plenty of action in the video.
Two more video joined the series this week. The first debuted on Monday and continued the trend of three-minute Tekken 7 previews. But it’ll likely emerge as one of the fan favorites on the strength of Kuma and Panda’s appearances. Everyone loves bears who know martial arts. The video also features several franchise newcomers, including Claudio and Shaheen. The second video debuted on Thursday, just in time for the weekend crowd, and there’s a good chance it’ll be the last character trailer we see before the Tekken 7 release date.
It’s unclear whether or not the series will continue from this point. We do expect to see at least one more trailer before Tekken 7 heads to North American retailers; however, few would be surprised if Bandai Namco shifted its focus from character spotlights to a more generalized promotion of the game. Few games arrive without launch trailers anymore and the Day One videos that accompany fighting games tend to devote attention to story beats and supers.
Tekken 7 is in development for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. The game debuts June 2.
