The launch trailer for Troll and I is out, alongside the new action-adventure title from Maximum Games, giving players one last sneak peek at the adventure awaiting them in the cooperative Scandinavian adventure. The video doesn’t tell us much about the project we didn’t already know, but does feature people, places and things withheld from previous Troll and I footage.
Troll and I is a cooperative action-adventure set in 1950s Scandinavia, inspired by Norse folk tales. The game follows Otto, a young man forced to abandon his village after it’s attacked by a group of hunters, and the massive Troll he befriends after retreating into the nearby woods. The duo can be controlled by a single player, swapping as needed/desired, or by two people playing together in the same room. Troll brings brute strength to the table, allowing him to move large objects, hit harder in combat and destroy obstacles. Similarly, segments that focus on Otto emphasize the young man’s significantly smaller frame, frequently incorporating platforming and puzzle-solving elements into the action adventure.
Our latest look at Troll and I also introduced several enemies, including diminutive goblins that may prove a bit troubling for Otto (though decidedly less so for Troll) and the hunters mentioned in the game’s official description. It’s not exactly the most diverse cast of villains we’ve ever seen. In fact, we can’t remember the last time we’d only “met” two enemy types from a new game by the time it made its way to store shelves. But it’s always possible Maximum Games is holding back the most interesting enemies for the Troll and I campaign. We certainly hope so.
