We weren’t familiar with Troll And I before this week. But a new trailer, and word that the game is only a few months away from launch, has us more than a little curious about the next project from Maximum Games and Spiral House. Here’s what we know about Troll And I, so far.

Troll And I casts players as Otto, a young Scandinavian boy, and Troll, the gigantic, er, troll that Otto discovers in the woods near his village. Without getting too spoiler-y, for those who’d rather wait until launch to learn more about the plot, common enemies force the unlikely pair to become allies. It’s not a choice so much as necessity, if either hopes to survive, but it is probably safe to assume they’ll be best friends by the end of the game. On speaking terms, at the very least.

The game will combine action and puzzle elements. And not in the way you might expect. Frequently, games like Troll And I are designed in such a way that give each character a clear-cut purpose. One is the fighter and one is great with puzzles. Rather than stick with the old ways, which can make some games feel repetitive, Maximum says Spiral House is building Troll And I in such a manner that makes both heroes useful in and out of combat. They’ll still fill traditional roles, with the larger half of the team relying on its brute force while Otto relies on his speed, but both will still be useful in a variety of scenarios. Best of all, Troll and I will support local co-op, making it one of the increasingly few modern releases that still allows split screen play,
