Things haven’t been great for the Resident Evil franchise the last few years, at least not here in North America, but Capcom is hoping a slight change on its traditional zombie formula could breathe new life into one of the most recognizable properties in the gaming industry.
Umbrella Corps is an upcoming multiplayer shooter, set two years after the events of Resident Evil 6, that drops players into the boots of mercenaries hired (by various corporations) to retrieve bio-organic weapon research from the now-defunct Umbrella Corporation. That means heading deep into zombie-infested territory, in a variety of new environments, while simultaneously watching out for mercenaries from rival organizations. Both are entirely capable of bringing your search to an end.
Interestingly, despite setting the stage for an interesting new take on the standard deathmatch formula, it seems Umbrella Corps sticks to exactly the sort of run-and-gun action that we’ve come to expect from titles like Call of Duty or Halo. This week’s trailer shows items falling off of downed mercenaries, giving us the impression we might see some variation of the standard Kill Confirmed match type in Umbrella Corps. But it looks like we’ll have to wait a bit longer to learn anything else about the game.
If you haven’t already, spend a few minutes watching the new Umbrella Corps trailer from Capcom. Then head down to the comments section and let us know whether or not you’re interested in checking out Umbrella Corps when it heads to PC and PlayStation 4 later this year.
Umbrella Corps is being developed for PS4 and PC. The game is scheduled to hit stores this May.
