Naughty Dog revealed the new Uncharted 4: Survival game mode back in May. Finally, Naughty Dog Game Designer Vinit Argarwal announced via PlayStation Blog the anticipated multiplayer game mode will enter the spotlight at this year’s PlayStation Experience where those that attend the event will get first chance to dabble in Survival co-op, which will launch in mid-December.
Survival Mode Explained
In Uncharted 4: Survival, players will have a slightly different multiplayer experience – a wave-based mode where up to three players take on waves of enemies, which increasingly get tougher with every wave, plus unique objectives to keep the mode interesting. Sound familiar?
Well, Survival takes after the co-op arena mode in Uncharted 2 and Uncharted 3, but with an improved core gameplay, depth, challenges and variety. Survival will be a perfect mix of skill, strategy and will include new enemies, boss fights, and an abundance of new weaponry and upgrades.
Dive into Survival and battle against 50 waves on 10 maps of Brutes, Snipers and Hunters from the Shoreline mercenary crew. As you can expect, waves of enemies will grow more aggressive, sharper and better equipped for each match. Every 10 waves there will be a boss fight which includes a new character inspired by the Libertalia story and its founders, the Pirate Warlords. These Warlords throw a wrench into the gameplay with Mystical attacks. Naughty Dog even named dropped one of the Warlord boss’ we can expect to fight, "Adam Baldridge,” a pirate captain and one of twelve founders of Libertalia. Baldridge is the one on fire in the video above.
There’s more to just reaching the 50 waves in Survival. Depending on the map or area, there are different ways to achieve victory based on given objectives such as collecting treasures or taking out flagged enemies. Along with surviving the waves, completing objectives earns in-game cash to purchase upgrades, including weapons, gear, mysticals and long guns.
Survival’s Very Own Progression System
Uncharted 4: Survival new dedicated progression system enables players to earn upgrades to their weapons as they rise through the ranks. New items such as Survival-exclusive boosters will also be available as players progress.
And as players rank up, the enemies grow more difficult and pack more firepower. Finish Survival on hard mode and unlock crushing mode, which puts your new survival skills to the test.
