A new one-shot issue for The Walking Dead comics reveals a surprising connection to Rick Grimes. The Walking Dead: The Alien written by Brian K. Vaughan and Marcos Martin takes place in Barcelona, which marks the first time the series takes place outside the continental United States.
"In the comics, we've stayed in the continental United States; we haven't really ever explained what's happened outside of it," Kirkman said in an interview for his Skybound YouTube channel . "I used to joke that people are hanging out in Australia and they're fine and it's just the American continents that are all messed up — but that's not the case."
The Walking Dead: The Alien follows the story of a man named Jeff and a local woman named Claudia. The two try to return to the United States shortly after the rumors surface the government may have found a way to contain the zombie outbreak. The big twist? Jeff is actually Rick’s older brother.
Rick has never mentioned anything about his family outside of Lori and Carl. You’ll have to read the comics to find out what happens to Jeff Grimes. The Walking Dead: The Alien is available for now on digital site Panel Syndicate. The issue is available for free here , but it’s important to note the creators haven’t been paid for their creation. You can choose to pay what you can for the issue and the profits for directly to Vaughan and Martin.
