Good news for The Walking Dead fans! It appears creator Robert Kirkman does not have a definitive ending for his popular comic book series and that's a good thing for the show.
AMC programming president Joe Stillerman recently spoke to Vulture about the direction of The Walking Dead TV series. Stillerman told Vulture the biggest problem Kirkman had with other zombie stories was the ending- he wanted something more substantial than someone just saving the day at the end. Kirkman thus created a comic juggernaut with a storyline that could go on for a very long time.
“The answer to how long the show will go on in some way is directly correlated with the health of the storytelling in the comics,” Stillerman told Vulture. “Those comics are firing on all cylinders. He still writes every line of dialogue in those books, and is as engaged as he was when I think he was sitting around in Kentucky writing the first issue. That is very much part of the DNA of the show. He sort of felt like, in real life, this goes on for a very long time. We’re along for that ride.”
AMC is open to more The Walking Dead spinoffs like Fear the Walking Dead, which had a bigger debut than the original series. However, AMC isn’t discussing The Walking Dead series final just yet. The Walking Dead comics are about 50 issues ahead of the TV series’ storyline, so there’s plenty of time to figure out an ending. The Walking Dead season 6 returns Feb. 14 on AMC.
