Rick will experience a major moment in the midseason premiere of The Walking Dead season 6 that will cause him to look at life differently, according to Andrew Lincoln. The actor recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly about what’s to come in the rest of the season and comic book fans might already know what to expect.
Lincoln told Entertainment Weekly that Rick and his crew will stay in Alexandria despite the walker herd taking down their walls. Lincoln teased there will be a time jump in The Walking Dead season 6 that reveals why the group decides to stay in Alexandria. It makes sense why Rick’s group would stay in Alexandria; it has sturdy houses, fertile land and a water supply. In the end, Alexandria is still their best place for survival.
“The mere fact that they were able to build the fortifications and the solar panels and all of the infrastructure is an astonishing achievement — and with nothing, no soldiers or anything. Rick’s strength is seeing that we can fortify this place,” Lincoln told Entertainment Weekly. “A lot of these concerns and questions get answered relatively quickly in the first two or three episodes of this back eight. There is a time jump, I will say, at some point. And you will see why we stay in Alexandria.”
Comic book fans will also be excited to learn Lincoln said “something happens” that causes Rick to change and adapt to his new circumstances. We won’t give away what might happen in The Walking Dead season 6 return, but if it’s anything like what happens in the comic books, fans can expect Rick to dial back the Shane inside him and start thinking like he used to.
“We do realize very quickly in the returning episode that it’s almost like the end of a chapter. Something happens,” Lincoln told Entertainment Weekly. “Rick learns a lot about himself in this episode. What I will say is that the pace quickens a lot in the back eight. It jumps up a gear, maybe two gears, and we move very, very quickly. A lot of things happen in quick succession that propel us towards a very thrilling finale.”
That “something” could be the death of someone close to Rick and the injury of another person. In the comics, Rick learns that he needs people to make Alexandria work. Hopefully, Rick can learn his lesson quickly before the introduction of Negan at the end of season. The Walking Dead season 6 returns Feb. 14 at 9 p.m. on AMC.
