Rick Grimes is a changed man, but it may not be for the better, where his group is concerned. The Walking Dead Season 7 will reintroduce the character as a broken man. You might even say he’s much worse than he was after his wife Lori died giving birth to Judith.
Andrew Lincoln teased what’s to come for his character in The Walking Dead Season 7 during an interview with Entertainment Weekly. In the show’s Season 6 finale, Rick finally met Negan and saw just how powerful he is. There was no turning back once Rick realized he had underestimated Negan.
“As the season finished, the story was about Rick being broken,” Lincoln told EW , “and realizing that basically everything that he thought has been turned upside down in the space pretty of much of a day. The world that he fought and strove for for so long has irrevocably changed.”
Lincoln added, “You meet a man who’s powerless, terrified for his own life and his son’s family’s life, and everybody else beside him...And he realizes that there’s a new world, a much bigger, scarier, and formidable world.”
Negan is unlike any threat Rick has faced in the past. Negan is charming like The Governor, but savage like the Wolves. He also bears similarities to Rick when it comes to their personalities; Negan does take care of his own, so long as they're loyal to him.
Still, Negan’s introduction will be a good change of pace for the show . Rick’s group was getting too powerful, and it was only a matter of time until someone like Negan came into the picture to restore the balance.
The Walking Dead Season 7 premieres Oct. 23 on AMC.
