The Walking Dead Producer Gale Anne Hurd thinks Negan’s introduction is exactly what the show needed.
Hurd recently spoke to E! Online about the upcoming introduction of The Walking Dead comics’ famous villain. The best part about Negan, to Hurd, is that he makes his own rules and doesn’t seem to care about the wellbeing of others, at least on the surface.
"I think Negan is the ultimate villain. He's been the ultimate villain in the comic book and I think Jeffrey Dean Morgan is bringing him to life the way that I imagined because he is larger than life, he is charismatic and he really enjoys what he does. He doesn't seem to have much of a conscience about it, and that's the kind of person we haven't seen before," she revealed. "Everyone else had a justification that they were reasoning as to why they did what they did, some of the evil things. They always had an excuse. Well, Negan rules."
The psyche of Negan goes alot deeper than you’d think. He has his own moral compass, even if his sense of morality is way off at times. He believes ruling by fear is the only way to survive in the new world, but his reasoning for being so cold is pretty sad. In the comics, we just just found out Negan’s first encounter with a walker was in the hospital with his dead wife, Lucille. Yes, the same Lucille he named his baseball bat after.
Negan does know right from wrong, he just likes to blur the lines every once in awhile, which makes him a threat to the other communities. Seeing how Negan interacts with Rick will be one of the best parts of the upcoming season. The Walking Dead Season 7 returns Oct. 23 on AMC.
