inXile Entertainment has already raised more than $2.8 million for the development of Wasteland 3, less than a week after the launch of the game’s Fig campaign, and it only took three days for the project to reach its $2.75 million goal. To reward the community, inXile released details on the first of what will likely be several stretch goals for Wasteland 3. And it sounds like the W3 dev team has some incredible ideas for the next addition to its cRPG series.
The community is already closing in on the first stretch goal, activated at $2.85 million, which unlocks more than three dozen additional customization options for your team of Rangers. The contents of that Flair pack aren’t concrete yet; however, inXile says it “could include multiple body types, more heads, and more hairstyles.” The developer also says it will show some equipment, like shovels or binoculars, on character models. As of press time, the community only needed to raise ~$300K to unlock the new personalization content.
At $3 million, inXile says it will add a “talking car companion” to Wasteland 3. The idea is that an AI-enhanced vehicle, originally built for President Reagan, is now in possession of the Rangers. The car would apparently bolster your team’s traveling abilities, help out on the battlefield and even “give you well-timed advice on how to wipe out all the dirty commies out there.” We’re not sure how Knight Rider fantasies got mixed into Wasteland 3 but is anyone complaining?
If the contributions reach $3.1 million, Wasteland 3 will include customizable Ranger insignias, giving players the opportunity to personally design the emblem for their squad. The insignia will be used in all the places you’d expect, like flags and other base decor, and gives players a bit more freedom to personalize their journey through the frozen wastes of Colorado. Additional stretch goals have not been revealed yet.
