The first four minutes of AMC’s Preacher have been made available online. Check out the start of Preacher episode 1 below (warning for blood ‘n gore ‘n Willie Nelson):
Preacher is based on the edgy and adult comics by writer and artist pair Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon.
“Myself and Garth have always thought that Preacher would work best as a TV show,” said Dillon in a recent interview. “The book ran for nearly six years so there was always going to be too much to try to cram into a two hour movie… It’s great that this is finally happening and I’ve really liked what I’ve seen so far. I hope fans of the book will like it too.
The pilot is directed by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, also the executive producers on the show, with Sam Catlin as showrunner. However, Rogen and Goldberg have made it clear that their version will not be a strict adaptation of the events of the comic. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Rogen stated, “I don’t know that you could translate it directly [from the comic]. Everybody involved felt we should not — including [comic creator Garth Ennis].”
About the infamously, gleefully blasphemous and graphic source material, Rogen continued, “We’re fans of the comic. We love the comic. We’re going to make a show we like, so we hope that that translates to people that love the comic as well. But our first and foremost goal is to make a great, entertaining, fun television show that if you never heard of the comic book, you love. We want the show to be fun for regular people without sick sensibilities.”
Preacher premieres Sunday, May 22 at 10 p.m. EDT on AMC.
