Rhonda physically attacks Anika, drawing blood while accusing her. Anika maintains her innocence but Rhonda does not believe her. Actress Grace Gealey teases that it is still uncertain whether Anika is the person that pushed Rhonda.
However, Anika is guilty of something, namely talking to the FBI about Lucious Lyon. The agency is pressuring her to testify against Lucious in court. However, when the Lyon family finds out about this, they decide to put Anika into hiding. The pressure becomes too much for Anika and she attempts to take her own life. In an episode 18 preview, we see Anika sitting on the balcony edge of a high-rise building with the Lyon family urging her not to jump.
Fans were shocked to see Jamal Lyon shot in episode 17 of Empire. While previews offer no clues about whether he is alive or dead, there is still a possibility he survives. Many note it is unlikely the Lyon family would host a wedding if their son had recently died.
Actress Gabourey Sidibe teases there will be a death in the Season 2 finale, just as there was a death in the Season 1 finale; however, it is not clear who will pass away. There are many possibilities given Anika’s suicide attempt and the gangster brawl at Hakeem’s wedding. We can even imagine Lucious possibly killing the FBI agent who is investigating him.
Ever the narcissist, Lucious will go visit Freda Gatz in prison and to ask her why she tried to shoot him. In episode 17, she learns that Lucious is the reason her father, Frank Gather, is dead.
