Westworld seems to be continuing in the legacy of Lost with new episodes creating more questions rather than more clarity. Season 1 still has three episodes left, but with Season 2 already confirmed by HBO, we expect to the maze of mysteries to deepen next year. Luckily, there are some questions we can answer right now.
Fans of the Man In Black will be relieved to hear that Ed Harris is set to return for season 2. During an interview on BBC Radio 4, Harris let the news slip. The interview focused more broadly on Harris’ stage work in Sam Shepard’s Buried Child, but also covered his career in a broad sense. When the discussion did turn to Westworld, Harris said this: “As a matter of fact, I was just talking to Jonah Nolan last night, who’s a creator of this thing with his wife Lisa Joy, and yeah, they’re doing another season. They’re going to do ten more episodes, and I will be involved.”
Harris’ character, The Man In Black, serves as a sort of Westworld power user. In the real world, he runs a mystery foundation dedicated to curing life threatening diseases. In game, he is obsessed with finding the ‘maze’ and the deepest secrets of Westworld.
While this news may serve as proof that Harris’ character will survive this season, let’s remember that this is a show that plays around with timelines and that the park has the ability to use people’s DNA to create more hosts. We will need to wait until the end of Season 1 to have better guesses on how the character will fit into Season 2.
