A new playable character is coming to Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap, when the upcoming remaster heads to consoles in mid-April, and a new trailer for the upcoming Metroidvania game offers our first look at Wonder Boy ’s newest hero, Wonder Girl.
There aren’t any major revelations in this week’s Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap trailer. The video confirms the inclusion of a playable female protagonist, for the first time since Wonder Boy debuted on the Sega Master System b a c k i n 1 9 8 9, and offers an early look at the HD and 8-bit versions of the character. But the rest of the Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap trailer is just more of the same side-scrolling, sword-slashing action we’ve seen in previous videos.
A post on the U.S. PlayStation Blog offers some insight into Lizardcube’s character design process, including early character designs for the game’s roster. The post also features early illustrations of the game’s weaponry, including a cheese knife-inspired sword for Mouse Man, and the 8-bit sprites that will represent each character in Retro Mode. Sadly, there’s still no word on the previously confirmed PC port, but let’s hope/assume it’s still on track for a 2017 debut.
